What will we work on?

This workshop is intended for participants who already have some dollmaking experience and would like to take their skills further. Beginners are warmly welcome too; however, if you have not yet made a doll, please get in touch before enrolling so we can discuss how to prepare and practice a few key techniques in advance.

During the workshop, you will create a doll lamp with a double-face lampshade: a distinctive sculptural art object that immediately draws the eye and brings atmosphere, poetry and character into an interior. The image of a woman in a hat is especially evocative, suggesting personality, presence and story. If you wish, we can also explore incorporating your own fabrics, particularly if they hold personal or sentimental value.

As well as completing your own piece, you will be guided through the process step by step, so that you gain the understanding and confidence to create a double-face lampshade independently again in the future.

The focus of the workshop is on creating a firm, harmonious and expressive head, carefully developed from multiple angles so that the final result becomes both a functional lampshade and a compelling decorative object. Throughout the workshop, you will learn how to:

  • shape the face using needle felting techniques

  • build balanced and harmonious facial volumes, including cheeks, forehead and chin

  • refine symmetry and model the eye sockets and features

  • shape and define the lips

  • add colour and finishing details to strengthen expression and character

Participants will receive clear guidance at every stage, helping them not only complete their piece, but also understand the method well enough to continue exploring and developing similar lampshade artworks afterwards.

All participants will also receive a customized user manual, presented in a wooden box, which documents the creative process behind making a doll lamp.

When?

The workshop is very intense and runs for two full days: 27 - 28, May (Thursday - Friday) from 9h to 18h (with one hour break for lunch). The dates will be reconfirmed beginning 2027, once the registrations are open.
