ABOUT

Greetings! Many thanks for stopping by. My name is Ewa, I'm Polish and I live in Brussels / Rhode-Saint-Genèse (Belgium) with my husband and our two daughters (5 and 7 years old). For the last 15 years, I have worked in media/communications and project management sectors, while I previously worked in academia as a media researcher. I have a passion for the creative arts, for many different sports (particularly trail running), and travelling. I’m also “addicted” to chocolate (there is no better place to develop such as addiction than Belgium, I can tell you!) and daily cycling with my girls.

My journey towards the creative arts dates back to 2014, when I asked for (and I still don’t know why) a sewing machine for my birthday. It took me 11 months to unwrap the gift, it happened just when I became a mother for the first time and when I suddenly (like so many other mothers) wanted to make an outfit for my little girl “on my own”. With the arrival of Oriana, I discovered a passion for sewing and I feel deep gratitude for the guidance I was given as I learned how to create clothes.

I was privileged to have an exceptional mentor Felicia – a seamstress and a pattern maker working for a haute couture house. Always demanding (with her saying Start over again!), she would spend countless hours teaching me the techniques of cutting the fabrics, assembling the pieces and pattern making. I still remember one of our first projects – a long blue evening dress made from 6.5 metres of silk, what an adventure!

With the departure of Felicia to Australia in September 2018, I felt it was time for me to start my own atelier. I opened Atelier Blasson in October 2018 to focus on made-to-measure, customised orders for girls’ clothes. In parallel, I also completed a course in childrenswear design at the esteemed Central Saint Martins (University of the Arts London).

It makes me proud to see little ladies wearing the outfits that I have made. I’m a strong believer in slow fashion – buying garments of high quality, made in a sustainable way, with an emphasis on the art of clothesmaking and the skills of the craftspeople who make them. I create clothes with quality and longevity in mind.

My interest in dollmaking developed in a different way. I have virtually no memories of dolls I played with when I was a child. I only remember that I would sew clothes for them when I was about 7 years old. When my first daughter was born, I started to look for handmade dolls on the market. And then I thought that I could actually make one myself. Again, I was lucky to have two outstanding mentors – Fabiola (Fig and Me) and Agnieszka (Lalinda) who were willing to share their knowledge of dollmaking. I find creating dolls fascinating since it requires so many skills. You need to be able to make sketches, master the techniques of needle felting, know the secrets of embroidery and crochet, not to mention sewing tiny outfits (which is way more demanding than normal clothes given the minuscule dimensions).
